Western K9 Security, in association with Obedience Plus is currently training Explosive, Narcotics, and Cadaver detection dogs. Our dogs are highly motivated with great search drive.
All Canines are trained to Certification Level.
Western K9 Security makes use of many contacts to help us find quality dogs with the right stuff.
Currently using Labrador Retrievers and German Shepherds, breeds known for their search drive. We will only use dogs with solid temperaments and that have had social, family oriented upbringings.
Head trainer, Werner Hader is personally involved in the purchasing of all Canines. His years of expertise in the canine field accounts for our high success rate in our Detection program.
Training:
- Basic level 1 - Obedience, socialization (good people skills), physical exercise & confidence course.
- Basic level 2 - Imprinting specific explosive odor detection.
- Advanced level 3 - Introducing search patterns, baggage, auto's, interior and exterior. (open areas)
- Advanced level 4 - Field training, different handlers, challenging the canine's abilities.

Canines (explosive) are trained on the following basic odors:
- Smokeless Powder
- Black Powder
- Commercial Dynamite
- Ammonium Nitrate
- Primer Sheet (Flex-X)
- Detonator Cord
- TNT
Canines (narcotics) are trained on the following basic odors:
- Hashish
- Marijuana
- Heroin
- Cocaine
- Ecstasy
- Methamphetamine
Canines are trained to search the following environments:
- Buildings
- Baggage
- Vehicles
- Commercial Trucks
- Cruise Ships
- Trains
- Open Areas
All canines sold are ready to Certify to the NNDDA standards.
EXPLOSIVES: Licensed (2007) with Natural Resources Canada, Explosives Regulatory Division.
NARCOTICS: Licenses (2007) with Health Canada, Healthy Environments and Consumer Safety Branch.
We do not cross or dual train our canines.
Explosive trained canines are trained to alert passively.
